Njeri M-Waiganjo

Team Lead Governance Advocacy & Policy

My names are Njeri M-Waiganjo; a wife, mom of three humans and one canine.

My educational background is in Economics (BA) and Finance (MBA) and I have had a long career in various aspects of credit risk management in the US and Canada.

In the larger community, I am an active member of the Swahili Catholic Community Church, where I was in leadership for the past 5 years but now serve as an ex-officio leader, serving where my talents are required. By my own admission, I am a joyful dancer, passionate singer and every planting season I make the best efforts to plant something but the jury is still out on the colour of my thumb.

I  consider myself something of a political junkie, but even more importantly, I have great respect for public service and the good it brings to society if well intentioned and executed. KCO's tagline; One Kenya One Tribe speaks to how I see the world; as a 4th generation Nairobi city  girl who has never understood the ism's that drive negative discourse amongst our people but also a true bleeding heart idealist. Truly, Umoja ni nguvu and I strongly believe if we can look past our manufactured differences, we can harness the powerful human capital amongst diaspora Kenyans in Ontario to achieve great accomplishments here and back nyumbani. As the inaugural lead of the Governance, Advocacy and Policy (GAP) team at KCO, I envision this operating as a think tank: drawing from experiences within and outside of the Kenyan community to identify existing gaps, brainstorm ideas and once well thought out, action them in conjunction with other KCO teams, community partners and local Governments where possible. I am also eager to develop an educational platform that provides Canadian civic education to our people, aimed not at driving a certain political agenda but having an informed electorate that can participate fully in the Canadian political system. I am looking forward to serving you all and participating in engaging sessions with open minded, experienced and well intentioned partners to drive this brave and timely KCO agenda forward.
